Morocco improves planning system for efficient forecasting

Morocco is improving its forecast and strategic view of economic and social development, said Thursday, Morocco's Planning High Commissioner, Ahmed Lahlimi Alami.
Speaking at a meeting on the presentation of UNDP 2003 Human Development Report and a national Report on the millennium's objectives for development, the Moroccan official said the strategic view makes human development a source for economic growth and progress.
Lahlimi added that the national general population census, expected in September 2004, will allow to update the real economic data that will serve human development-based strategic planning. In this respect, the official announced new measures taken by his department to improve the department's forecast measure, mainly through updating data on national accounting and setting up regional accounting systems, a necessary measure for improving decentralization and regionalization policies.
