Tehran prepares international complaint against Saddam Hussein
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 12/16/2003

The spokesman for the Iranian government Abdullah Ramadan Zada said that Tehran is preparing a complaint before the international court against the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on charges of committing "crimes" against Iran during the Iraqi- Iranian war.

Meantime, the Iranian lawyer Sherine Abbadi, who received the Noble price for peace, expressed hope that Saddam Hussein will receive a "just trial " before a "neutral and international" court and not in front of the Iraqis who suffered from his rule.

Ramadan Zada said that the Iraqis are the first who are entitled to file a complaint against saddam, but this does not mean that others cannot do that before International Court." He added "the foreign ministry is taking necessary measures, and has actually collected documents, and we do hope to practice our rights in the due place." Ramadan Zada said "we want an international court to consider the crimes of this dictator, and this court should tell who armed this dictator, so as he was able to be behind three major crises in the region."

Worthy mentioning that hundreds of thousands of Iranians were killed between 1980-1988 during the war which erupted following the Iraqi forces invasion of the Khuzistan oil rich area, and thousands were killed in attacks by the Iraqi army in which chemical weapons were used.
