Hedallah trial suspended, waiting for witnesses

News reports in Mauritania said that the chairman of the criminal court in Nouakchott decided to put the former President of Mauritanian Muhammad Khouna Weld Hedallah and his colleagues in custody, awaiting the summoning of witnesses.

The attorney general announced that the witnesses statements will be heard at a request submitted by hedallah's lawyers.

The attorney says that the three witnesses that are expected to be brought before the court stressed they had received from Weld Hedallah money that seemed to have been received from Libya.

Weld Hedallah, who was the main rival for the current President of Mauritania, during the presidential elections which took place on November 7th, with 14 of his colleagues were accused of planning to topple the regime during the elections.
