al-Anbaa: Al-Jafaari: Kuwait agreed to resume diplomatic relations with Iraq
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 12/10/2003

Member of the interim governing council in Iraq Ibrahim al-Jafaari said yesterday that Kuwait agreed to resume diplomatic relations with Iraq.

The Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa quoted al-Jafaari as saying that he had held talks to this effect with the Kuwaiti prime minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah who informed him that the council can send an ambassador to Kuwait to resume his work.

Jafaari did not set a date for sending an Iraqi ambassador to Kuwait, or a date to open an Iraqi embassy there, but he indicated that Kuwait wants to wait until security conditions in Iraq are settled before sensing an ambassador to Baghdad.

This, however, will make Kuwait the first Gulf state to establish diplomatic relations with Iraq after toppling the regime of Saddam Hussein.
