Moroccan human rights minister holds talks with Jordanian officials
Morocco-Jordan, Politics, 12/9/2003
Moroccan human rights minister, Mohamed Aujjar, held in Amman Sunday separate talks with the Jordanian chairman of the national center of human rights, Ahmed Abidat, and political development minister, Mohamed Daoudia, on human rights in Morocco and bilateral relations.
Talks dealt with the Moroccan experience in human rights promotion and the important achievements made in the country to compensate victims of disappearances and arbitrary detention.
Aujjar explained that Morocco has been collaborating with international NGOs and the Moroccan civil society to generalize human rights education in schools.
He recalled in this vein that king Mohammed VI approved in November 06 the creation of a Justice and Reconciliation committee that will seek the truth in cases of disappearances, deaths and other violations. The committee will be in charge of pursuing out-of-court settlement of past human rights abuses and complete, within an agreed time-frame, the just and equitable rehabilitation of victims of forced disappearances and arbitrary detention.
Earlier, the Moroccan official highlighted in a symposium the originality of Morocco's experience in dealing with human rights violations. He underscored that the arbitration committee that is in charge of defining compensations to the victims of human rights violations and arbitrary detention has dedicated a budget of US $100 million to integrate these victims and their families in society.
At the end of the meetings, the two Jordanian officials hailed the Moroccan human rights promotion experience and expressed wish to establish with the Moroccan concerned parties privileged relations to benefit from the country's experience.
