Morocco projects to reforest 37,000 hectares in 2003-2004

The Moroccan high commissioner for water and forests and for desert encroachment fighting has earmarked a 275 million DH (US$ 28 million) to reforest 37,000 hectares in the 2003-2004 season.

The program consists in producing some 40 million plants, of which 80% are already completed, grow 28,000 hectares of forest destined for reforestation use, 5,000 hectares of soil protection forests and 4,000 hectares of renewed forests. Under the program, 25,000 hectares of existing forests will be maintained.
