Washington confirms warning against travel to Lebanon
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 12/5/2003
The US yesterday renewed its warning to Americans on the risks of traveling to Lebanon, through issuing a new statement besides the one issued on May 6th.
The new warning said that the US Department of State warns US citizens to consider fully the dangers of traveling to Lebanon. The warning added that tension in the region led to increasing open hostility against the US.
The warning added: the recent developments in Lebanon like the explosions which targeted properties for American companies, and the killing of one American citizen in October 2002 in Sidon, all necessitate the need for caution and personal and security protection.
The warning added: spontaneous demonstrations and acts of protest and sometimes violent acts took place in the Palestinian camps in Lebanon and in most cities and near the US embassy and the UN premises.
The warning continued: Lebanon's southern borders were calm in recent months despite the continued high tension, and the military activities by the Hizbullah and the Palestinians there might increase.
