Shaaban interview with the BBC
Syria-Israel, Politics, 12/5/2003
SyriaÕs Expatriates Minister, Butheina Shaaban, has stressed Syria's commitment "Madrid terms of reference" that stipulate the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Golan Heights and all the occupied Arab territories.
In an interview given today to the BBC, Shaban said that what President Bashar al-Assad had proposed, in his interview with the New York Times newspaper regarding the return to the peace negotiations from the point they stopped, represents Syria's permanent proposal because Syria is fully aware that Madrid Terms of reference and the International resolutions and those of the UN are the only way to establish just and comprehensive peace in the region.
"Syria's vision depends on the necessity for achieving just and comprehensive peace at the time that all the Israeli demands are based on the absence of peace, and Israel has no consideration of the international resolutions, hindering all the attempts to achieve peace in the Middle East," Shaaban added.
