US state secretary Colin Powell, told a press conference following a meeting with king Mohammed VI that Morocco and the United States share the vision of two states in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
"In the Middle east, we share the vision of two states: Israel and Palestine living in peace and democracy," Powell said before flying to Algeria, where he will wind up a 3-nation Maghreban tour he had started in Tunisia.
"The relationship that Morocco has with both parties will help us achieve this vision, he said, extending thanks to king Mohammed VI "for his support to our efforts."
Concerning Iraq, Powell said "Our goals in Iraq are the same as well: Return the control to the Iraqi people as soon as possible. "We appreciate Morocco's support" in helping us achieve that goal and in helping Iraqi people achieve it.
Earlier, the US official held a series of meetings with Moroccan officials, most importantly with Moroccan premier, Driss Jettou.
In a meeting with representatives of the Moroccan civil society, Powell said Morocco is going on the right path thanks to the leadership of king Mohammed VI and the various reforms carried out in the country.
