Comoros opposition call for resignation of the President
Comoros, Politics, 12/4/2003

The coalition of the opposition parties in Comoros called yesterday on President Ghazali Othman to submit his resignation.

This coalition includes 11 parties most of them from the greater Comoros island, the most important among the three islands the federation comprises.

The chairman of one of the opposition parties in the coalition, Youssef Saeed, said "we call on Ghazali to resign because he does not observe the constitution." He called on adopting a new constitution over which a referendum was held in December, 2001. It states to establish the federation of Comoros islands and giving every one of them vast authority.

Saeed who was talking in a press conference in Moroni yesterday added "we will call on the people of Comoros in the coming days to express their anger over the way the country is run." This announcement is made, one week after the army oppressed a demonstration organized by President by the Greater Comoros island Abdo Soli al-Baq, who opposes Ghazali Othman. Some 17 demonstrators were injured, seven of them were injured by bullets.

Worthy mentioning that the federation of Comoros islands which are situated in the Indian Ocean, is composed of the Greater Comoros islands, Anjwan and Mohelli.
