Sudan: 47 persons killed in Darfour

Sudan's Liberation Movement, present in West Darfour, stressed yesterday that 47 civilians were killed and 37 wounded in raids by the government's planes against villages in the region.

The chairman of the movement Abdul Wahid Muhammad al-Nour, said that an "Antonove plane of the Sudanese army bombarded brutally on Monday villages of the Noun mountain" area, and this resulted in killing 47 persons most of them women and children, and other 37 were wounded. He explained that Noun Mountains are situated to the north of the capital of Darfour, west Janinah, and that the raids resulted in the evacuation of large numbers of the population towards neighboring villages and mountains.

Al-Nour said "It was an indiscriminate bombardment targeting civilians ,and we are calling on the international community to interfere in order to protect civilians."
