Mubarak, Burns discuss the situation in the Middle East
Egypt-USA, Politics, 12/3/2003

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday held talks with the US Middle East envoy William Burns that dealt with latest developments in the Palestinian territories and Iraq.

An Egyptian presidential source said that Mubarak and Burns discussed the efforts made to implement the Roadmap and means of eliminating obstacles impeding its implementation.

The source continued that the American envoy briefed Mubarak on the results of his meeting in Amman with the Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qrei on Saturday. Burns stressed during his meeting with Qrei his country's desire to achieve peace on the ground of the foundation of two states, Palestinian and Israeli. He also stressed Washington's commitment to the Roadmap plan.

Burns had arrived on Monday evening in Cairo where he had met with the secretary general of the Arab League.
