Ben Ali calls on the UN to ensure protection for the Palestinian people

Tunisia's President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has called on the international community to stand firm to put an end to the aggression against the Palestinian people, urging the Israeli government to abide by international law.

In a message he addressed to the international community on the occasion of the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People which falls today, Saturday, Ben Ali said he calls on the UN "to materialize its solidarity with the Palestinian people in practical tangible steps through standing firmly in order to put an end to the Israeli aggression and to force the Israeli government to abide by International law and deal seriously with various efforts and initiatives aiming at reviving the peace process."

Ben Ali also called on the UN "to implement its due role according to its own resolutions, to findi a just solution for the Palestinian question and the conflict in the Middle East as a whole, through working with all sides concerned to implement the roadmap and resume negotiations so as to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, enabling the Palestinians to restore back their legitimate rights, foremost being their rights to establish their own independent state on their native soil with Jerusalem as a capital, and both ( sisterly) Syria and Lebanon to restore back all their occupied lands."

Ben Ali stressed that the Israeli occupation forces continue "imposing siege on the Palestinians and destroying their infrastructure, properties, confiscating their lands, and continues acts of killings and assassination, and is still persistent to continue expansion of the settlement and installing the ( seperation wall), and targeting the legitimate Palestinian leadership."

Ben Ali renewed the call to ensure necessary international protection for the Palestinian people and for rapid move to stop the deteriorating situation in the region.
