Brazilian president to tour the Middle East
Regional-Brazil, Politics, 11/28/2003

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, and the chairman of the representatives of the Mercosur southern American common market, Edwardo Dohaldy, will pay a visit to the Middle East next week in a tour which will cover Syria, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Libya, respectively in order to sign trade agreements and others.

Dohaldy said the tour aims at "opening markets" for the southern American common market. Adding that the Brazilian President " asked me to accompany him to represent " ( Marcosore ).

The former President of Argentina, Dohaldy, said that his presence stems from the idea of finding markets to the Mercosur block which was joined by Chile and Bolivia.

Lula will start his tour in Syria on December 3rd where he will be meeting with President Bashar al-Assad and hold a close door meeting with businessmen. Lula will meet in Lebanon with the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud, prime minister and speaker of the Parliament. He will then move to Abu Dhabi where he will open a conference organized by the joint Arab- Brazilian chamber of commerce.
