Morocco and Chile to increase trade exchanges
Morocco-Chile, Politics, 11/26/2003

Morocco and Chile have agreed to increase trade exchanges and reinforce cooperation in agriculture and fisheries, said Monday speaker of the Chilean senate, Andres Zaldivar, who is currently on a week-long visit to Morocco.

Zaldivar who met Moroccan foreign minister, Mohammed Benaissa, said his visit to the kingdom is meant to give a new impetus to bilateral relations, notably in economy.

Also visiting Morocco is speaker of the Chilean House of Representatives, Isabel Allende. Jettou deplored that economic exchanges remain below the high level of political relations, pointing out that there is a good potential that should be highlighted through business missions.

He also hailed Chile's support to Morocco in the Sahara issue as reaffirmed by the two Chilean speakers in their meetings with Moroccan officials. Allende and Zaldivar both hoped there will be a final solution that respects Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces.

For her part, Allende expressed admiration for the achievements accomplished in all fields in Morocco, particularly in the promotion of women, hailing the remarkable presence of Moroccan women in the two parliament houses and their important positions in the private and public sectors.
