Tunisia describes statements of lawyer Radia al-Nasrawi as false
Tunisia, Politics, 11/26/2003
A Tunisian official described statements by the Tunisian lawyer Radia al-Nasrawi, who continues her food strike, as allegations.
The official who asked to be anonymous announced that had it not been for the fact that his country has a special friendship with France -- which has an interest in this case -- silence would be enough to answer the media campaign provoked in this regard.
A Tunisian source stressed that the Tunisian lawyer, who is observing a hunger strike, enjoys full liberty to move inside and outside the country, and to invite to her house anyone, including the representatives of the Tunisian and foreign media.
He added that al-Nasrawi conducts her work as a lawyer in the capital Tunis or in other parts of the country and that she cannot give any evidence for her allegations.
On Monday, al-Nasrawi decided to continue her hunger strike which she had started on October 15, despite her deteriorated health condition in protest of harassments she had been exposed to with her family and clients.
The lawyer said upon receiving representatives for the international press in her house "I find myself obliged to continue the strike because the authorities did not respond to my simple, clear and legitimate demands."
