Arafat doubts Sharon's seriousness, Hamas renews rejection of the truce
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 11/26/2003

The Palestinian President Yasser Arafat considered the Israeli threats by the Israeli Prime minister of making unilateral moves if the Roadmap fails, shows that the Israeli prime minister is not serious about the roadmap.

Arafat also renewed his doubts on Israel's commitment to the cease fire with the Palestinian groups if the Palestinian authority reached an agreement with it to this effect.

Arafat stressed that for this agreement to be effective, it has to be given a strong impetus, noting that "if UN forces are not sent, there should be UN observers." The Palestinian president, on the other hand, performed Eid al-Fiter prayers in his residence in Ramullah city in the West Bank. He called on Israel to implement the Roadmap.

In this framework, the Israeli settlers yesterday spoke of the main lines for what they called "a peace plan" which rules out the foundation of a Palestinian state but provides self-rule, and they opposed the dismantling of settlements and the " land for peace" principle. This is, however, in retaliation to the Geneva peace initiative and the US Roadmap peace initiative.

The Israeli radio said that this plan was prepared by 14 extremist parliamentarians, and from the Likud party which is led by the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, and calls for dividing the Palestinian and Israeli lands into 10 cantons.

In the two Cantons specified to them, the Palestinians can propose for voting for the Israeli legislative elections in the context of voting for each canton that guarantees a "Jewish majority in the parliament." The radio added that the plan calls for that the prime minister should be an Israeli but an Arab can be a deputy prime minister.

Meantime, the Israeli occupation forces broke into the eastern quarters of Jenin city amid indiscriminate fire. Witnesses said that these forces besieged several houses and carried out inspection operations under the pretext of searching for wanted individuals by Israel from the Jenin area.
