Bremer, Abizaid talks about decrease of attacks in Iraq
Iraq-USA, Military, 11/26/2003
The US administrator of Iraq, Paul Bremer, said that the attacks launched by armed men are increasingly targeting collaborators of the occupation forces.
Bremer added, in a press conference held yesterday in Baghdad with the US Central leadership, Army Gen. John Abizaid, that the most important matter is the involvement of the Iraqis in the security issue. He stressed that there are security agreements with the governing council towards a provisional government with a large authorities working in this regard.
For his part, Abizaid admitted that there is coordination between a group of cells working with each other in several cities in order to organize attacks against the American forces.
Abizaid admitted that the greater number of attacks are carried out by Iraqis, supporters to the regime of President Saddam Hussein. He stressed that the problem lies in what he called the agents of the former regime.
Abizaid said that the Iraqi police will assume the security responsibility in several Iraqi cities and that there is a plan to ensure an Iraqi security force and a civil defense in the Iraqi areas.
