Electric distributing transformers manufactured in Egypt
Egypt, Economics, 11/24/2003

Ministry of Electricity and Power kicked off manufacturing and producing the dry electric distributing transformers at all kinds of potentials for the first time in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.

The project is being carried out in collaboration with one of the international firms.

Hassan Younis, Minister of Electricity and Power said investments in the afore-mentioned project amounted to L.E. 50 million so as to cover requirements of the local market and to export the surplus to Arab and African states.

The minister went on to say that Egypt succeeded in opening new markets for electric power together with adjacent countries.

It could make use of the electro-grid project in exporting electricity and locally manufactured equipment that could well compete their foreign counterparts in world markets.

Younis added that Egyptian companies concerned with electric enterprises won many tenders to carry out mega projects in Arab and African countries.

Such investments are being made use of in rehabilitation of the Iraqi electric grid to serve the re-construction projects after the donors were convinced with Egyptian know-how in this domain.

The minister pointed out to the fact that utmost consideration was given to domestic industrialization.

Self-sufficiency was achieved at ratio of 100% in Egyptian-made supplies and equipment for distributing networks. Besides, electronic card-operated equipment are currently manufactured at the Egyptian military factories.

Cables and equipment of new and renewable energy as well as other supplies are being tested to match the international criteria, the minister added.

He also said joint companies have been set up together with some Arab countries in the field of implementing projects concerned with electric engineering and consulting services.

Egypt has already given a hand in designing and executing joint electric projects in Morocco, Algiers, Libya, Yemen and Oman.
