Al-Assad confers with Iraqi tribal delegation

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad met in Damascus on Sunday Iraqi Tribes' delegation chaired by Hashem Al Srout.
On Saturday, Vice President Abdulhaleem Khaddam met with the delegation. Present at the meeting were al Baath Arab Socialist Party's National Leadership's Member Fawzi al Rawi and Information Minister Ahmad al-Hasan.
Khaddam stressed at the beginning of the meeting that the national unity is the only way to achieve the Iraqi independence, restore sovereignty and end the occupation.
Vice President asserted that the challenges and dangers which threaten Arabs are very big and Arabs must be aware of them and they must unify in order to restore the Arab solidarity that protects the interests and rights.
The Iraqi delegation for their part talked about the situation in Iraq, the Iraqi peoples' suffering and their ordeal stressing the depth of the national unity.
They asserted their determination to expand the Iraqi national framework in order to restore the independence and sovereignty, end the occupation and hold free elections under a supervision of the international law to select a legitimate council.
The delegation expressed thanks over Syria and her leadership led by President Bashar al-Assad due to her support to Iraqi people. They stressed Iraqi people's support to Syria vis-a-vis the pressure and accusations she is being exposed to.
Later, Khaddam stressed that the meeting with Iraqi Popular delegations are an expression of the fraternal relations between Syria and Iraq.
In a press conference following his meeting with Iraqi Tribal delegation, Khaddam told reporters that these meetings gave an opportunity to listen to the Iraqis' viewpoints vis-a-vis their ordeal where they all stressed their commitment to the national unity and their determination to restore their independence, sovereignty, end occupation and hold free elections under the supervision of UN.
About the Israeli threats against Syria, Khaddam said that they are not new, and Syria will not be drawn under any pressure or any threat.
Whether he expects further Israeli aggressions on Syria or not, Khaddam said that expecting such practices is not an easy matter, and Israelis know that they have no interest in such acts.
About the so-called Syria's Accountability Act, he said that this act is an American one and there are no economic interests in Syria that will be affected by this act and the US pretexts given for this act are unjustified and baseless.
Whether the dialogue with USA is still continued or not, He said that Syria didn't close the door of dialogue with USA or other countries.
