Peddler sentenced to 6 months in prison for advocating terrorism
Morocco, Politics, 11/15/2003
A peddler was condemned on Friday by the court of appeal of Rabat to six-months in jail and a 10,000 DH fine (about US$ 1,000) for advocating terrorism, under the anti-terrorism law enacted in Morocco following the string of terrorist attacks that hit Casablanca last May 16.
The prosecutor argued that the defendant supported the Casablanca attacks and encouraged people to commit similar terrorist acts.
The attorney pleaded for his client's innocence on the basis that the accusation was baseless and that the man did not use any means likely to cause trouble to public order.
Under the new anti-terrorism law, advocating terrorism is punishable.
