Secretary general for the Qatari human rights committee

Ali Bin Saeed al-Meri has assumed his new post as a secretary general of the national committee for human rights in Qatar on Thursday after he was chosen to occupy this new post.
The committee, which was established by Amir of Qatar, Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani on November 11, 2002, presided over by lawyer Khaled al-Ateyah while Ghalia Bint Muhammad Bin Hamad al-Thani occupies the post of vice chairman.
The new secretary general said that members of the committee which is composed of representatives of ministries "are laying the final touches of committee's basic law with the aim to submit it to the Cabinet for ratification later." The law will determine the specializations of the secretary general which basically concentrates on supervising administrative units affiliate to the committee. It will also have a raparrature.
On the committee's future programs, al-Meri said that the first of its works will be a conference on human rights to be attended by foreign experts and coincides with the celebration of the world day for human rights on December 10th.
