Americans were about to kill Iraqi Governing Council member, mistakenly

Member of the Iraqi Interim Governing council Muhammad Baher al-Oloum survived death yesterday when the American forces opened fire at his car and this resulted in wounding his driver.
An official in the name of the occupation forces said that the US forces opened fire mistakenly at Baher al-Oloum's car at the entrance of the general headquarters of the occupation in Baghdad.
The US army officer Mark Yanawi, who is in charge of the security of members of the governing council said that Baher al-Oloum survived the incident but he added that "his driver was hit in his leg" when the American forces opened fire. And only one bullet shot was fired." The American spokesman explained that the "incident took place near "July 14 bridge" at the entrance of the "green zone" in remarks to the headquarters of the occupation authorities which has strong guarding measures in the downtown of Baghdad.
In a statement, the governing council said " a spokesman for the American forces expressed deep regret over the incidents and apologized to Baher al-Oloum and to the governing council and said that investigations continue in the incident and to know its reasons. " The statement said that the Americans opened fire on the car in belief that it is stolen.
