US National Council of the Churches deplores the Israeli separation wall
Palestine-USA, Politics, 11/13/2003
The General Assembly of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, has condemned the Israeli persistence on building the separation wall in the occupied Palestine and called for tearing it down.
In a statement following its meeting in Mississippi, the assembly stressed that this wall will imprison the Palestinians, deprive them from practicing their normal activities and will increase their sufferings.
The gerenal assembly said "we note that the Wall is resulting in the de facto imprisonment of the Palestinian population, the denial of access by Palestinians to emergency services, health care, food, employment, schools and water resources, the curtailment of freedom of movement among the Palestinian people, and the exacerbation of suffering," add "the Wall violates international law and eliminates hope for a peaceful resolution of the Middle East conflict"
It asserted that this wall is considered a violation of international law and an obstacle in the way of the realization of a peaceful settlement in occupied Palestine, calling to dismantle it.
It reiterated its support to the establishment of a Palestinian independent state and to preserve the sanctity and openness of Jerusalem, calling on the member churches at the assembly to delegate solidarity delegation to the Middle East as an expression of care and love.
