Al-Shara meets Australian parliamentary delegation

Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara received in Damascus yesterday a delegation representing the Australian Parliament headed by Member of the Australian Senate, Sandy McDonald. Talks dealt with the latest regional and international developments particularly in the Occupied Palestinian territories and in Iraq.
Al-Shara stressed the importance of boosting the UN's role in resolving international disputes asserting the necessity for dealing with the region's issues through understanding its history and circumstances and through respecting its states' sovereignty.
Talks also dealt with means of boosting the standing relations between Syria and Australia. An Australian parliamentary delegation headed by Senator Sandy McDonald, accompanied by the Australian Ambassador in Damascus, on Monday visited the liberated city of Quneitra, south of Syria.
Deputy of the Head of the Executive Council of Quneitra Governorate, Nadim Mirza, briefed the delegation on the history of the Syrian Golan before and after Israeli occupation and the deliberate destruction inflicted upon the city and other towns in the area.
Mirza Praised the heroism of the armed forces in October war under the leadership of the great late President Hafez al-Assad. He also pointed out to the struggle led by the Syrians in the occupied villages and their commitment to their identity and the motherland Syria.
The Australian parliamentary delegation then toured Quneitra city and saw the premeditated destruction and devastation perpetrated by Israeli troops prior to withdrawal from the city.
