Sharon speaks of negotiating, Fatah's discusses formation of next government
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 11/6/2003
Israel's prime minister Ariel Sharon arrived back on Wednesday after he had concluded a visit to Russia in which he had expressed desire to deal with the new Palestinian government after it is formed.
Sharon said that the meeting with the Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qrei will be held later, at the request of Qrei himself so as the meeting will not undermine his efforts to form his government. Israeli mass media said that Sharon might be meeting with Qrei next week, despite doubts in the two sides on the possibility of making progress in the settlement after three years of bloodshed.
Sharon told journalists in Moscow that any progress in future negotiations with the Palestinians is linked to what the Qrei government gives in the area of controlling the Palestinian resistance movements against occupation.
Meantime, the leadership of the Palestinian national liberation front ( Fatah ) held a meeting yesterday at the presidency's headquarters in Ramullah to continue discussion on the formation of the plenary government and the attempt to reach a solution that end the crisis on appointing the minister of the interior.
Differences continued to be between the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and Qrei over the issue of who will assume the post of the minister of the interior. Qrei admitted that there are "obstacles" impeding the announcement of the government in its new formation, noting that no agreement was reached over the ministry of the interior.
