Morocco reiterates support to Syria against Israeli aggression
Syria-Morocco, Politics, 11/4/2003
First deputy speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Noureddine Madyane, reiterated in Damscus on Sunday Morocco's "support to Syria and condemnation of the Israeli arrogance and violation of all international regulations" through its air raid against Syria last October 5.
Madyane who is leading a Moroccan delegation to the extraordinary session of the Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) highlighted the need to end the Israeli occupation of Arab territories, including the Golan Heights, and to guarantee the Palestinian people's rights, notably the right to statehood with Al-Qods as capital.
In the same connection, the deputy speaker rejected the vote of the American congress to impose sanctions against Syria after it accused it of "sheltering Palestinian terrorist organizations." This act "will have bad repercussions on the whole region," he warned underlining that the Moroccan parliament backs any political initiative to be adopted by Arab parliamentarians in Damascus to support Syria.
The Arab parliamentarians convened on the request of Syria following the Israeli air strike that targeted its territory. APU's 44th session was held to express solidarity with Syria which is currently facing a fierce campaign by Israel and the United States which also accuses it of detaining mass destruction weapons and allowing fighters to enter Iraq through its borders.
APU's secretary general, Noureddine Bouchkouj, told MAP the resolutions adopted in this session will definitely live up to the aspirations of Arabs who refuse to submit to the external dictates that undermine their security and interests.
Five Arab speakers took part in the session along with several representatives of Arab parliaments.
