Kharazi statements on the situation in Iraq
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 11/4/2003

Iranian Foreign Minister, Kamal Kharrazi, stressed that the formation of an Iraqi national government was one of the basic issues of the final statement of the Iraq Neighbor States' Foreign Ministers meeting.

In a statement following his arrival from Damascus on Sunday, he stressed that the meetings' final statement concentrated on the importance of restoring Iraq's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

He added that the neighbor states underlined that the absence of security and stability in Iraq will negatively affect their interests.

Turkish Foreign Minister, Abdullah Gul underlined that the Damascus meeting was held at a critical stage regarding developments in Iraq.

In a statement yesterday, he pointed out that the meeting dealt with the situation in Iraq in details, stressing that Iraq should end the political transition process as soon as possible in line with the Security Council resolution No. 1511.

For his part, Jordanian Foreign Minister, Marwan Muasher stressed that the deliberations of Damascus meeting were positive and fruitful.

He stressed the neighbor states' desire for helping the Iraqi people in restoring their sovereignty and forming an elected government.
