Tunisia, Politics, 11/4/2003
The International Society in Support of Political Prisoners has warned against the dangers of the deteriorated humanitarian conditions of political prisoners in Tunisia as a result of what it called the bad treatment the prisoners undergo.
In a statement, the society said that the bad treatment the prisoners undergo resulted in the deterioration of their health conditions catastrophically, noting that many of the prisoners started a food strike demanding improvement of their living conditions.
The statement said that the ill response of prisoners administration in Tunisia to the demands of those prisoners resulted in having many of them vulnerable to disease and the death of many of them.
The statement added that the lack of response of the prisons administration in Tunisia to the demands of those prisoners resulted on the death of many of them. It counted several reported deaths cases among the prisoners who are in deteriorated human conditions. These persons, the statement said include Lutfi al-Aidoudi, Ziad al-Doulatli, Muhammad Bi Ayyad al-Akrout, Ali al-Zawaghi and Mahmoud Hanafeyah.
The society said that the situation of those prisoners is but "a sample of drastic cases which require prompt intervention from the authorities concerned to put an end to this catastrophe."
