Libya joins the Arab electricity grid

The 9th Ministerial meeting of the six-way Electrical Linkage Countries was held on Sunday with the participation of the electricity and energy ministers of Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey in addition to a representative of Iraq.

The participants discussed the electricity linkage projects among Syria, Iraq and Turkey in addition to Libya's joining to the six-way linkage countries and the studying strengthening of the network.

In a concluding statement, the participants agreed on Libya joining the six-way linkage countries after it had completed the necessary legal and vocational procedures.

Syrian Electricity Minister Munib Sa'em al-Daher told SANA that this meeting achieved great progress pointing out that there are three specialized committees represented by the directing, planning and technical committee in addition to the ministerial meeting.

He made clear that the six-way linkage is considered a major project in the Arab states that is also linked with Europe by the participation of Turkey indicating that this project needs large investments of USD 600 million dollars.
