Sharon in Russia, tomorrow
Israel-Russia, Politics, 11/1/2003
The Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon starts tomorrow his first visit to Moscow since one year in order to meet with the Russian President Vladimir Putin who reacted suddenly towards the Islamic world by his participation in the recent Islamic summit held in Malaysia.
Talks between Sharon and Putin are expected to deal with the nuclear cooperation with Iran, the question of the detained Russia Jewish billionaire Mikhael Khodorkvisky and the Palestinian- Israeli conflict especially after Moscow had discussed a proposal to the UN security council for a mechanism to implement the roadmap.
According to an Israeli official, during Sharon's visit which will last for three days "common issues will be discussed including the roadmap and the international war against terrorism and Iran." Russia and Israel had talked repeatedly about their facing of the danger of "terrorism" in "Chechenea and Palestine."
It seemed however, that Russia started to incline to the Islamic world once again. It criticized strongly Israel's decision to build the separation wall in the West Bank, and supported the Syrian draft resolution to stop building the wall. Putin also tried to put Russia closer to the Islamic states through his participation in the Islamic summit in October.
The Kremlin announced Sharon's visit one day after Putin had attended the Islamic summit. Certain analysts remarked that Sharon wants to find out the reason behind Putin's decision to attend that summit.
