146 people who obtained Egyptian citizenship
Egypt-Regional, Local, 10/30/2003
Some 146 people born to Egyptian women married to Jordanians, Iraqis, Libyans, Lebanese, Moroccans, Pakistanis, Syrians, and Yemenites were granted the Egyptian nationality, the Egyptian interior ministry announced Wednesday.
This measure follows instructions given last September by Egyptian president Hosni Moubarak during the annual congress of the ruling party (the National Democratic Party).
So far, 376 out of 250,000 people who applied for the Egyptian citizenship were naturalized, the source added. Children born to Egyptian women married to non-Egyptians were not systematically entitled to become Egyptians.
