One Palestinian killed; Qrei assigned to form new cabinet
Palestine-Israel, Military, 10/30/2003

The Israeli occupation forces killed one Palestinian and arrested another after he war injured in a fire exchange near Carni crossing to the east of Gaza.

Palestinian security and medical sources said the Israeli occupation army yesterday handed over the body of Muhammad Subhi Awad ( 26 year old) from the Islamic Jihad movement. The body was admitted to al-Shefaa hospital in Gaza.

The same sources said that one Palestinian died because of his wounds in an air raid launched by the occupation forces on October 20 targeting a sedan car in al-Nuseirat camp in the downtown of Gaza.

The source added that Salah Abdul Ghaffar ( 16 year old) died, nine days after he was wounded by missile shelling fired by the Israeli helicopters at a sedan car in the downtown of the camp.

On the other hand, tanks of the Israeli occupation forces incurred into Khan Younis on Tuesday evening to the south of Gaza and demolished houses and arable lands. Palestinian security sources stressed that the occupation tanks demolished the house of one Palestinian in the western part of Khan Younis before they withdrew from the place.

At the political level, the Chairman of the Palestinian emergency government Ahmad Qrei stressed that the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat asked him verbally to form a new Palestinian government immediately after the end of the emergency government on Monday.

Qrei will form a plenary government which will replace the current mini emergency government by the beginning of next month to be submitted before the legislative council to win confidence.

Qrei stressed the readiness of the Palestinian side to reach a cease fire with Israel, noting that this matter is among the priorities of the government despite the fact it is an area of difference among the various Palestinian groups.

At the internal level, the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, expressed readiness to discuss halting attacks against the Israelis with Qrei, noting that this depends in the first place on the suspension of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

Hamas' representative in Lebanon Osama Hamdan said that the movement is ready to make a dialogue with Qrei but sees talking about cease fire with Israel as "illogical, unrealistic."

Meantime, an Israeli military court sentenced to life imprisonment the activist from the Hamas Movement, Mazin Faqhat, on charge of carrying out an armed operation in Safad, the Galilee to the north of Israel that resulted in killing 9 Israelis. The court also sentenced him to 50 year imprisonment over taking part in planning for the attack which was launched against a bus in the Galilee.

The activist denied the accusations, but the court did not consider his denial into account. Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group, the military wing of Hamas movement claimed responsibility for the operation.
