Syrian official stresses deep relation with Iraq; condemns attack on Red Cross

Syria has stressed that the visits of the delegations representing the Iraqi national parties to Syria reflect the deep-rooted relations in the joint history of Syria and Iraq which can not be ignored.
In a statement to press yesterday Director of Foreign Media Department at the Foreign Ministry, Boushra Kanafani said "Damascus supports the Iraqi efforts to unify their positions and to work for a unified and liberated Iraq." Kanafani stressed that Syria's support to the Iraqi people is a natural thing dictated by the interests of Iraq and the Arab nation.
Kanafani also expressed Syria's condemnation of the attacks against the international and humanitarian organizations in Iraq.
"Syria strongly condemned the attack against the International Red Cross headquarters in Baghdad," Kanafani said.
Kanafani added that "the operations target the innocent civilians and the international and humanitarian organizations are a terrorist acts and affects badly the very interests of the Iraqi people."
