Experts talk of the start of guerilla war against occupation in Iraq
Iraq-USA, Politics, 10/28/2003

Several experts in London expect that the violent attacks against Baghdad on Sunday and Monday to be the beginning of a traditional guerilla war against the American- British occupation forces, but they considered it is difficult to know who is behind it.

Five booby trapped car exploded simultaneously on Monday and targeted four Iraqi police centers and the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC and this resulted in killing 42 persons and wounding other 216.

The expert in the "Defense Analysis" bulletin Francis Tousa said "the matter is very grave and the attacks are not isolated." He added that it is the beginning of traditional guerilla war and a terrorist campaign. This expert considered that the Americans deliberately try to underplay the dangers of these attacks. He said the Americans "say they are thieves.. no, they are more important than that. They are organized and have their own plans and objectives."

The expert recommended the Americans to accelerate the deployment of members of the Iraqi police and pave the way for them to carry out peace keeping missions. He added "the Americans, however, are in need of more time on the ground."

He stressed that the possibilities for the short run are not promising. He added "we will witness more big attacks and more booby trapped car and missile shelling." He considered that as a result of the deteriorated condition there will be more "cement barriers and violent patrols" by the American forces.

However, expert Tousa refused to make a comparison between what is taking place in Iraq and what happened in Vietnam. He considered that what is taking place in Iraq at the meantime "recalls to a certain extent of Northern Ireland in the 1970s." He added that "the number of killing at this phase was 350 per year, while the American forces used to loose 400 men weekly in Vietnam.
