American writer says Bush should not be quite on Israeli practices against Palestinians
Palestine-USA, Politics, 10/28/2003
American writer and political analyst Jim Hogland called on U.S. President George W. Bush to pressure the Israeli government of Ariel Sharon into end repressive practices against the Palestinians, warning of silence over such offenses.
The analyst told the Emirates Al-Khalij daily in an interview published Monday that Bush had to lead a balanced policy regarding his country's relations with Israel.
Hogland described the so-called "security fence" being built by Israel in the West Bank as an attempt to disintegrate Palestinian political and physical presence and legalize the already existing settlements built in the occupied Palestinian lands.
Sharon's policy of setting up "security zones" in the occupied Palestinian lands indicated he was planning to build a wall to block any future compromises with the Palestinians, he asserted.
The American political analyst said that any plan by the NATO to help establish peace in the Middle East would be aborted if Washington maintained the position of a silent partner, indifferent of Sharon's policies. "Security do not require annexation of lands or the intimidation of the other partyÉor destroying it as Sharon is doing," he concluded.
