Mummy from Georgia definitely pharaoh
Egypt, Local, 10/27/2003
Egypt's Secretary -General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities (SCA), Zahi Hawas yesterday said that the mummy that had been returned to Egypt from a museum in Georgia, US, was definitely that of a pharaoh.
"It cannot be said for sure whether these are the remains of Ramses I, the founder of the 19th Dynasty (1295-1188, BC), or one of his early descendants, Hawas said at the press conference at the Egyptian Museum.
"The mummy could be that of Ramses I or his son Seti I, who is said to have closely resembled his father," Hawas said, adding that the sarcophagus, which was found beside the mummy while it was still in Luxor, contained no other remains.
In 1871, the mummy was bought from the Abdel Rasoul family by Mustafa Agha, who, unaware of its true value, sold it to a museum in Niagra for L.E. 7.
