Lahoud confers with Chinese ME envoy
Lebanon-China, Politics, 10/25/2003
Lebanese President Emile Lahud stressed on Friday that Israeli continued aggressions against Syria and Lebanon aim at widening the scope of confrontation.
Lahud said during a meeting with the Chinese Envoy to the Middle East Wang Shi Jie that Beijing is "called on to do its efforts side by side with the European Union to reactivate the Mideast peace process and stop the dangerous deterioration of the situation as a result to the aggressive policy of Israel and its violation of the international resolutions."
The Lebanese President added that "the occupation of other countries' lands cannot achieve its aims because might cannot undermine peoples' right to independence and sovereignty," citing the Lebanese example where it was able defeat Israeli occupation with the cooperation of Syria.
President Lahud reiterated his country's commitment to the UN resolutions on the region, saying that "Ariel Sharon's intransigence in his provocative policies to undermine stability in the region and export his own internal crisis cannot remain without a reaction."
The Chinese envoy conveyed to the Lebanese President a message from the Chinese President in which he expressed his country's solidarity with Lebanon and the desire to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Chinese envoy stressed his country's "condemnation of Israeli aggressions against Syria and Lebanon," pointing out that "peace cannot be established in the region unless Israeli occupation has ended."
He added that China would continue to support the efforts of Syria and Lebanon for the boosting of stability in the region, saying "we are convinced that any peaceful solution to the Mideast issue without Syria and Lebanon would not be comprehensive and will not bring peace."
