The Guardian: Memorandum of arrest against Muqtada al-Sader
Iraq, Politics, 10/24/2003
Iraqi sources said that the occupation forces and Iraqi officials are preparing a warrant of arrest against Shiite clergy Muqtada al-Sader on his involvement in the case of killing Abdul Majeed al-Khou'e in April.
According to the British "The Guardian" the warrant of arrest which is not completed yet and seemed that it is undersigned by Taher Jalil Habboush, the prominent figure in the former intelligence department, who is currently working with the occupation authorities.
The Guardian quoted a source in the Interim Governing Council saying that the prevailing assumption in the American occupation authorities is that Muqtada al-Sader is a person "who cannot be contained." He added: they consider that there is enough evidence that he is involved in the assassination of al-Khou'e and want to move to cut down his wing before he can cause more damage.
The Guardian said that with the escalation of tension between the American forces and the associates of Muqtada al-Sader, the Iraqi police fear the eruption of anger in deprived areas in Baghdad, al-Najaf and Kerbalaa, if Muqtada al-Sader is arrested.
Abbas al-Ruba', the spokesman for Muqtada al-Sader said any talk about involvement in violence is politically motivated by opponents saying "What had happened that "al-Khou'e was in the wrong place at the wrong time." Meantime, al-Houzeh paper, mouthpiece of the holy Houzeh said that the American forces arrested the two Sheikhs Akram al-Kaabi and Kazem al-Abbadi, who are among the followers of Muqtada al-Sader during their visit to Karbala on Tuesday and took them to an unidentified destination.
