Iran insists on right to nuclear technology; looks for own interest
Iran, Politics, 10/22/2003
The official Iranian news agency IRNA said yesterday that "Iran will sign the additional protocol of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) before November 20, said Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hojatoleslam Hassan Rowhani here on Tuesday," adding that Iran "will not sign up to the protocol before October 31," the deadline given to it by the international atomic agency.
"Asked about the duration of suspending uranium enrichment, Rowhani said the duration is voluntary, it can be one day, or one year, it`s up to Iran," the agency quoted the official saying after he talked to reporters following talks with foreign ministers of the UK, of Germany and of France who visited Iran on Tuesday.
The report added "He said the project will be suspended as long as Tehran deems necessary and it would resume it at any time for any reason."
Worth noting, that Iran, a country besieged by continuos threats and intimidation from many countries on top of which is the US and Israel -- both countries with nuclear weapons, that want to strip Iran of any advanced capabilities in the nuclear arena.
