BBC: Smaha: Syrian troops presence or pullout is a Lebanese matter
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 10/18/2003

Lebanese Minister of Information, Michael Smaha, has stressed that the Syrian troops presence or pullout from Lebanon is a matter for the Lebanese state alone, and not the US.

He considered tha so-called Syria Accountability Act which demands the Syrian withdrawal of Lebanon as an interference in Lebanese internal affairs and a breach of the international law.

In an interview broadcast by the BBC on Firday, Smaha indicated that there are signed agreements between Syria and Lebanon and no one has the right to interfere in Lebanon's foreign relations or and in its strategic national security which is based on the confrontation with Israel that has usurped Arab and Lebanese territories.

He pointed out that the agreement with Syria is a strategic matter included in the standing signed treaty between the two states.

He underlined that Syria's Accountability Act proves once again that the US. Administration looks at the Arabs and Moslems through "the Israeli interests and the Zionist lobby in the United States."
