Arab Journalists Union urged press freedom
Regional, Politics, 10/18/2003
The Arab Journalists Union (AJU) hailed on Thursday urged the Arab states to promote the press freedom and abrogate the laws and legislation hindering the freedom to publish newspapers and create TV channels and radio stations.
AJU denounced arbitrary actions against Arab journalists in some Arab states, calling for the release of imprisoned journalists. These practices, says the release, are "against the freedom of expression and threaten the safety of newspeople."
The Union agreed in principle on a project aiming to compensate journalists and their families in case of partial handicap or death during the covering of armed conflicts.
