Mubarak: If the Americans withdraw now from Iraq, a civil war will erupt
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 10/17/2003
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak warned that the withdrawal of the American forces from Iraq now will be concussive to a civil war.
In a meeting which brought together officials and citizens in Qana province in Upper Egypt Mubarak said "should the American forces withdraw today from Iraq, according to certain calls, a state of chaos and a civil war will erupt in Iraq."
He added "after what had happened in Iraq of destruction and after the sacking of the Iraqi army and firing of Baathists employees the situation has become very very complicated."
He added " before the US leaves, conditions should be arranged quickly... laws should be enacted and elections should choose.. When people choose their rulers the withdrawal of foreign forces start gradually."
Mubarak said " I have told the Americans before the war that war is the easiest phase in Iraq's operation.. In the war there will be striking by planes and bombardment and destruction will continue and then the land forces will be deployed and then difficulty starts. You will meet great difficulties and heavy losses."
Mubarak said " the American were mistaken to desolve the Iraqi army.. Iraq has no private sector to recruit people and every and each Iraqi army officer or soldier has a family composed of 7 to 8 children. If their salaries are cut and he is trained.. what he will do, he will be a terrorist. He will search for weapons and start fighting."
Mubarak indicated "this is what happening now.. There are talks on sneaking persons from outside or inside.. forget about that," adding that there is a state of frustration among the Iraqi soldiers and army officers that pushed them to suicide operations. He expected more attacks of this kind.. He said that the attacks are launched by the Iraqi people. " The "Iraqi people do not accept occupation," he commented.
