Malaysia's FM criticizes US Congress Syria Accountability Act legislation
Syria-Malaysia, Politics, 10/17/2003

Malaysian Foreign Minister, Sayed Hamid el Bar on Thursday criticized the US House of Representatives endorsement of the so-called Syria Accountability Act legislation stressing that imposing sanctions on states doesn't offer any solution to problems.

In a press conference on the sidelines of the 10th Islamic Summit, el-Bar said that this comes at a time when Israel attacks the Syrian lands, the U.S. threatens to impose sanctions on Syria and to use the Veto against Syria's draft resolution at the UN for condemning the Israeli aggression on Syrian lands.

El-Bar stressed that it is impossible to condemn the Palestinian operations without condemning the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and the Israeli oppressive practices against the Palestinian people.

He underlined the necessity for Iraq to regain sovereignty and called for giving the UN a main role in Iraq.
