Boldness and courage for a historic change is demanded from France

With the ongoing talks of UN Security Council resolution on Iraq sought by the USA, France should insist that any resolution by the Security Council resolution include text that specifies that "this vote is the last in which a Security Council member can use the veto right."

Or, France should veto today's resolution, and in a statement, perhaps along with Russia and China, say that for the sake of democracy and justice and proper representation, we insist on the reform of the Security Council, and until this is done, each and every vote and meeting will be obstructed by a veto, thus in effect, putting the council's function to an end.

At a time when the interests of France, Russia, and China are those of the rest of the world, why would these countries not support such an action? They have been and will continue to be ineffective and their role little more than symbolic in the world in the face of total US dominance. So why not strip the US from its power and bring it under a democratic system. In this Democratic system, these country's concern will be heard and protected. France, Russia, and China have everything to win from this act, and nothing to loose, except a symbol.

If the opportunity is missed, the US will have had its way, and things would be back to normal. The US is certain to keep scaring these countries about a multitude of international issues, the list is long, and that only it -- the USA -- can effectively deal with these issues. This is a false and flawed proposition from the USA.

There are no good reasons not to act other than the irrational fear from change. What would happen to the policies promoted by France through out the world if it acts to break the Security Council? France would win on almost every single issue in the future, as the world countries and France are in agreement on most issues. If this is true, then France does have everything to gain and nothing to loose. If Russia and China show they care about international democratic institutions to resolve world problems, then they can certainly join in on this act. Either way, we need a fresh start, and France, with unprecedented boldness and courage has a truly golden and unique opportunity to forever change international politics. We've heard enough jokes from Americans about French fries and Freedom Fries. It is time the world broke free from the US hegemony and the Security Council which it uses to block all real political progress in the world.

France can state that in the interest of the world progress, it will veto every single act by the UN Security Council, unless the council removes the veto rights, and reform itself and expand to include other countries, such as Germany, Japan, India, Brazil and others.

Along with any Security Council resolution on Iraq should be attached the text that The UN Security Council agrees to abandon "the Veto rights of its permanent members for majority vote system." That's all. Solve this problem, and the other international problems will fall in line. France must not let this opportunity pass to make this stand. The entire world, save the US and Britain, would rally feverishly behind it for such a brave, and historic act.
