Early leftist militant, Mohamed Basri, passes away

Morocco's Mohamed Basri, an early leftist militant and resister to French protectorate, passed away this Tuesday morning in Chefchaouen at 73, his relatives announced. Basri, a founder of the National Union of Popular Forces (UNFP) that became later on the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and director of the party's mouthpiece "Attahrir," had suffered a heart stroke and was operated on in Paris.
