Turabi calls for freedoms and openness in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 10/15/2003

Leader of the opposition People's Congress in Sudan, Hassan al-Turabi, has called for introducing freedom in the country and without excluding any person or organization.

Turabi stressed the need of disseminating Shoura in all political and non-political activities, noting that his party will reactivate a dialogue with all political forces. He called for Sudan's openness to its neighbors because this is one of the necessities of the international situation at the meantime.

Turabi said in his first press conference after he was freed from custody that his release came as a result of internal and international pressures on the Sudanese government. He stressed in the conference which was held in Khartoum his persistence to continue efforts to further the space of freedoms in the country.
