Al-Assad confers with al-Hakim

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad received on Tuesday Leader of the Islamic Revolution's Supreme Council in Iraq, Abdul Aziz al -Hakim.

Talks dealt with the situation on the Iraqi arena, efforts of the Islamic Revolution's Supreme Council in Iraq for boosting national unity, regaining national sovereignty through ending the occupation and the taking over the Iraqi affairs by the Iraqis themselves.

The president stressed Syria's stand by the Iraqi people and care for Iraq' s independence, unity and territorial integrity.

Meantime, Syrian Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam received on Tuesday al-Hakim. The official news said viewpoints were identical regarding boosting the national unity in Iraq, ending the occupation, regaining national sovereignty and electing a legitimate national government under the supervision of the United Nations.
