Regional-Morocco, Politics, 10/14/2003
Arab experts of international humanitarian law are currently convening in Morocco along with delegations from several Arab and foreign countries to probe issues concerning the international humanitarian law in Arab states.
The five-day seminar that opened Monday will also probe issues related to the implementation of international humanitarian law at the national level, the experience of international humanitarian law national committees and programs of humanitarian law dissemination.
Moroccan human rights minister, Mohamed Aujjar, highlighted at the meeting's opening session the developments in Morocco as regards broadening the scope of liberties and the respect of human rights as imperative strategic choices, pointing out that Morocco has ratified several international human rights conventions and has important assets in terms of human rights institutions and legislation.
He cited in this connection the creation of the Royal Institution of the Amazigh Culture and Diwan Al Madalim (a body in charge of administrative complaints filed by citizens) in addition to reviewing the tasks of the Human Rights Consultative Council.
For his part, head of the Arab League's legal department, Mohamed Radwan Ben Khadra, hailed the setting up of several commissions in charge of the promotion of international humanitarian law in many Arab states.
