Qrei looms to resign after the one month emergency government

The Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qrei loomed yesterday that he will resign after the expiry of the term of the emergency government which he presides over and will last for 30 days.

This has come after he had agreed to continue work without the Minister of the Interior lt. Gen. Naser Yousef who refused to take his constitutional oath.

Meantime the Rafah area is living under an atmosphere that is similar to that experienced during the setback of the year 1948; this is following the partial withdrawal of the Israeli forces from it on Thursday from the area in which water and electricity networking were destroyed in addition to 120 houses and this resulted in displacing some 300 families.

Qrei was asked about his plans following a meeting he had with members at the central committee of the Fatah movement at the headquarters of the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and he told journalists "the same government ( formed five days ago) will continue for another 25 days and then there will be a new government and also a new prime minister." He gave no further details. However, officials close to Qrei said that the prime minister was not necessarily ruling out to continue his post if he gets the consent of the parliament on a Cabinet he chooses.

It is expected that negotiations will be held to eliminate differences between Arafat and Qrei during the next coming weeks. Associates to Arafat said he has recovered completely from a stomach sickness and presided over a meeting of the Fatah's central committee which reached an agreement on continued government of Qrei without a minister of the interior. This solution postpone temporarily a threat by Qrei last week to resign because of Arafat's rejecting his nomination of Naser Youssef as a minister of the interior.
